Am so excited about these upcoming events in the UK! I cannot wait to speak with Ali Millar about her story of leaving the Jehovah's Witnesses. Ali and I had two extremely different, yet utterly bizarre childhoods. We'll be teasing out the threads in London at Foyles. Hope to see you there! I'll be meeting new writers and artists, having conversations about all manner of topics. And I'll be reuniting with my friend the brilliant Irish filmmaker Vivienne Dick, and meeting wordsmith and frontman for Cursed Murphy and the Resistance, Peter Murphy in Dublin at the Temple Bar Gallery and Studios. I arrive in Ireland on the 28th and will be spending four blissful days in the home of my maternal ancestors.
Then to Paris for a short vacation with Gail Ann Dorsey, where I'll see her perform with -M-, Matthew Chedid. Back to London for a talk with Thurston Moore, whose memoir will be coming out via Faber in October. Congrats, Thurston! We'll be together at Rough Trade West on June 6th with lost to discuss. Then perhaps back to Dublin? We'll see.
(Am honored to have received an endorsement for Twist from Angela McRobbie, Emeritus Professor at Goldsmiths, cultural theorist, feminist, author and commentator. She'll be hosting a talk with me online at Goldsmiths later in the year. Thank you Angela!)
I'll return to the states on June 15th to mash it'tup with Sandra Bernhard at the Strand Book Store!
Thank you, all of you for showing up at the events on my US tour for TWIST. The support has been deeply appreciated, and I'm extremely grateful to have been interviewed on several podcasts and for various sites. The reviews are in and so far, so good, including a Kirkus star and a mention as one of the 10 most addictive books in 2023 to date. Having never really desired an uncomfortable fit into specific boxes of identity, it was thrilling to have Kirkus describe trifold genres for TWIST, calling it Teen & YA Paranormal & Supernatural, Teen and YA Mystery & Thriller, and Teen and YA Fantasy. Even though it's memoir, a friend called these descriptions spot-on due to my having magically survived the stories within the pages!
Hearty gratitude to you readers, writers, artists, and all those that took the time to read the book and to speak with me. I usually post on Instagram and FB as podcasts go up, but due to busyness and shows being archived at later dates, I've missed some. Two I'd love to point out are germaine to the upcoming UK tour. Craig Charles and I had a truly fun conversation for his show on BBC Radio 6. And I've known Jim Sclavunos since 1977...
